ST PAUL'S PRAYER SUPPLIMENT - CLICK HERE

PRAY FOR A REDUCTION IN VIOLENCE IN THE CITY (especially gun and drugs crimes)

Recent statistics reveal that a violent gun crime is committed in the Bristol area every 2 days. – This is 50% higher than 4 years ago and within the last 3 weeks there have been two shootings.

CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR UNITY AMONGST CHRISTIANS IN THE CITY

Many other UK cities appear to have a higher degree of unity than we do in Bristol. Pray particularly that church leaders would get together to work and pray together for the blessing of the city and greater body. Where there is unity the anointing flows. Pray for a greater recognition of one another’s strengths rather than defects.

PRAY FOR A REPLACEMENT CHIEF EXECUTIVE OF FRENCHAY & SOUTHMEAD HOSPITALS TRUST

Life is not getting any easier for the NHS in Bristol. First it was the news that someone will be brought in from outside to run the BRI; and then the surprise announcement of the resignation of the Chief Executive of Frenchay and Southmead. All this at a time when consultations are due to re-start about the future shape of the hospitals in Bristol. Pray for all who are struggling to maintain services in these key centres. Ask that God will give strength to all involved.

PRAY FOR ST PAULS

A detailed prayer guide as to what to pray for St Pauls is attached as a Word document.

NEW PRAYER WALL WEBSITE

Pray for Michelle Gaskin who is launching this soon. Pray that her Apple computer can be fixed quickly and that the Lord blesses her greatly.

GLOBAL ISSUES AFFECTING BRISTOL

Protection from terror

Please pray against the spirit of violence and destruction that is trying to get a foothold in many parts of the world but also in Europe. The Jewish people are a special target but also Germany, Great Britain and France. Pray for wisdom and guidance for the police and the security forces so that the plans of the enemy will become obvious before they can be executed. "No weapon formed against our countries shall prosper."

Leaders in Europe need the Lord .
Many leaders have heard from God to seek Him concerning the new year and to receive His plans. At the same time the Lord wants to give them new strength during this time and fill up possible deficits. Pray for a strengthening of the many intercessors, as well, that protect these leaders. They, too, need new strength and a fresh vision. Many waves of attack by the enemy have been thwarted by them and they need special care from the Father, now.

IRAQ
Please continue to pray for the raising up of 1,000,000 intercessors to lay hold of the word of the Lord for Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq and thus avert war.

REFLECTIONS ON THE NEW YEAR AND NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS:

Many of you may have already had sufficient times of reflection and of seeking the Lord for fresh vision and dreams and inspiration. For those of you who haven’t had time yet. Here are some possible approaches.

NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS FOR THE CITY:

Think of how you would like Bristol to be in all its different aspects re: church, unity, education, public services, hospitals, police, crime, transport, environment, relationships, drugs, prisons, homelessness etc. and pray these dreams into being. Pray for the city councillors and MPs to have fresh vision and support in the challenges they face in light huge cutbacks.

WE SING TO YOU A NEW SONG - FOR YOU HAVE DONE WONDERFUL THINGS.

Psalm 98

When we hear a new song, new opportunities are presented to us. New songs can lead us to a new appreciation of someone we love or a new awareness of God's presence. They can lead us to new dreams for our lives or dreams of a better world. What is the new song in your life? If you don't have one, start listening today!

The people who sat in darkness had seen a great light.
Matthew 4

After the bright lights of Christmas, we become aware of the long nights of winter, we may be experiencing darkness in our lives. Jesus lights our way throughout each day.
Your light, 0 Christ, means life to us;
make us bearers of life to others.
Your light, 0 Christ, reveals -the mysteries of God to us;help us to recognize the "gifts of God."
Your light, 0 Christ, brings healing to our hearts; teach us to be compassionate with one another.

Christ is our champion. Christ is willing to help us in our delay. Christ is watching and cheering us on to a better life and a better world. Christ is at our side and ready for us to live life to its true fullness through our Lord Jesus Christ. Will this be that year for you?

This year when you make a resolution, don’t let it slip away.
This year get your hands dirty and help someone in need.
This year read at least 1 book to better your spiritual life.
This year increase what you give to needy causes.
This year take a more active role in church programs.
This year start a prayer list, or add new people to your list and pray each and every night.
This year participate in the Lenten service at least once a week in addition to Sunday.
This year start reading a passage from the New Testament each day.
This year take time and appreciate each day God gives you.

There are many things to add to this list, make sure that in each one of them you include God who is with you through them all. Start the New Year right!

I’ll get out more, leave work at the proper time, join a gym, not bring work home, see more of my friends, telephone relatives more frequently, actually listen to my kids, invite others to my home, try and get to church more often, be kinder, smile more, eat less.

While we remember them, because they are general they are easily forgotten and their idealism fails under a welter of inertia or overactivity. Soon we are I think it is important to stress that any commitments (like New Year resolutions) should be realistic and specific, otherwise they will not outlast January or even the end of the holidays.

If you're about to make some New Year's resolutions. "I'm going to lose weight." "I'm going to be more organized." "I'm going to read the Bible through." You know the kind. Sadly, we tend to break these resolutions within a few days or weeks. Maybe you need some help. Perhaps a few words to live by (at least to remember our resolutions by). Here are three words of resolution.

The first word is REMEMBER

Someone has said that memory is what tells a man his wedding anniversary was yesterday. Make 2003 a better year by remembering the following:

Remember God. "You shall remember the Lord your God . . . " (Deut. 8:18-20; see also Ps. 41:1-2; Eccl. 12:1).
Remember what God has done for you. "Remember His marvelous works which He has done, His wonders, and the judgments of his mouth" (Ps. 105:5); see also Ps. 77:11-12).
Remember God's commandments. "Remember and do all My commandments, and be holy for your God" (Num. 15:39-40).
Remember what you were before God saved you. "Remember that you were a slave . . ." (Deut. 5:15; see also Ex. 13:3; Deut. 15:15; Eph. 2:8-13).

If you're not entirely happy with where you are in your Christian life, remember where you were before you came to Christ. Then set your sights higher than last year.

LOOK is another word to assist you in making some helpful resolutions.

Here are some wonderful things for you and your friends to look for in 2003.

Look to God for salvation. "Therefore I will look to the Lord; I will wait for the God of my salvation; my God will hear me" (Micah 7:7; see also Isa. 45:22; John 3:14-17).
Look to God when you are in trouble. "Listen to Me, you who follow after righteousness, You who seek the Lord; Look to the rock from which you were hewn" (Isa. 51:1; see also Isa. 17:7-8; Matt. 11:28-30)
Look to the fields white for the harvest. "Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, for they are white for harvest" (John 4:34-35).
Look to the coming redemption. "Look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near" (Luke 21:28; see also Heb. 9:27-28; Phil. 3:20

If you look for these, you'll like what you see in the new year.

LIVE is a final word of resolution for 2003.

Resolve to live a new life. God says, "Seek Me and live" (Amos 5:4; see also Num. 21:8; John 3:14-18).
Resolve to live a faith life. "The just shall live by his faith" (Hab. 2:4; see also Rom. 1:16-17; Gal. 3:11; Heb. 10:38).
Resolve to live an obedient life. "Keep my commands and live" (Prov. 7:2; see also Lev. 18:5; Ezek. 18:9)
Resolve to live a Spirit-filled life. "If we live in the spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit" (Gal. 5:25; see also Gal. 5:16, 22; 1 Pet. 4:1-2).
Resolve to live a godly life. "Denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age" (Titus 2:11-12).
Resolve to live an honorable life. "Pray for us; for we are confident that we have a good conscience, in all things desiring to live honorably" (Heb. 13:18).
Resolve to live a peaceable life. "If it is possible, as much as depends on you, live peaceably with all men" (Rom. 12:18).

All kinds of New Year's resolutions can be made, but the ones that will benefit us most, and please God most, are the ones rooted in His Word. This year, make some biblical resolutions and then live by them throughout the year

continued to grow and to dream today. God is the giver of dreams. Without vision, the people perish. The fulfillment of the dreams of all humankind is Jesus Christ - but the dream doesn’t stop when one comes to faith. In my life, the dream continued, long after a youthful faith, and continued through the nightmare of depression to a restoration of that faith and new dreams. All good gifts, including dreams, come from the Father of Light above with whom there is no shadow of turning. May you be encouraged to dream with God again.
