that they may praise your Father in heaven'
'You
are the salt of the earth...You are the light of the world...Let your
light
shine before men, that they may praise your Father in heaven'
Each
week briefly pray God’s blessing over your church, one church of a different
denomination,
and your locality. Also pray for citywide church unity to come –
particularly
pray that there will be a move of God to bring all church leaders together
to
form
a regular Prayer Gathering.
For
the last five minutes of your hour pray for the person after you, and phone
them
(even
if they don’t follow on immediately).
This
will then leave you around half of your hour to focus on the following
prayer
topics:
THANKSGIVING FOR GOD’S WORK & CREATION IN BRISTOL
It’s easy to get disillusioned
with our city. However we have a lot to
thank God for in our
city – the beauty the large green spaces, the
architecture, the history,
the strong educational roots, the 1000s of
overseas visitors etc
and also for all the Christians and churches and
the enormous potential
in them. Ask God to show you what his
redemptive plans are
through whats here in Bristol
PRAY
FOR THE HEALTH SERVICE IN BRISTOL - pray for all doctors,
nurses,
auxiliaries, NHS administrators and hospital workers whom
you
know. –
The NHS is
in a state of disarray and needs our prayers. Pray for
local hospitals
near you eg. BRI, Southmead, Frenchay, St Peters
Hospice,
Children’s hospital, Barrow Guerney, Local GP
practices….
OPPORTUNITY
TO JOIN IN UNITED PRAYER ACROSS THE CHURCHES ON Monday
SEPTEMBER
17TH IN THE HEART OF THE CITY’S GOVERNMENT – in the Council
Chambers
in the Council House – College Green – organised by the Bristol Evangelical
Alliance
– EA Pray for Bristol - 7.30 pm to 9.30pm - Allow
God to work through you to bring change & transformation to this city.
COUNCIL
TREATMENT OF THE HOMELESS:According to Jackie
Pullinger’s
word for the city in the 1970s, Bristol is called to be a
‘City
of Refuge’ – the fact that the homeless flock here from all over
the
UK perhaps confirms this. However there is a huge
financial/resources
burden on the council because of this. Pray that
the
central government will release more finances to assist with the
problem
and that the city can fulfil its calling in providing adequate
care
for the homeless and those with addiction problems. Pray for
Christians
to be major helpers in this – some people have a vision
for
Betel (a very effective Christian, rehab/community/discipleship
programme
) to come to Bristol. A 20 bedroom property is needed to
get
them here – pray this will be forthcoming.
In Bible times, a covenant was the strongest promise two people could make to each other. They used three things to seal it: (1) They exchanged swords, signifying they’d always defend each other. (2) They exchanged shoes, meaning they’d go to any lengths to defend each other (3) They took a sacrifice, split it down the middle and walked between the two halves, declaring that without each other they were incomplete. What a picture!
God entered into a covenant relationship with His people and promised to bless them. " There, in the presence of the Lord your God, you and your families shall eat and rejoice in everything that you have put your hand to, because the Lord your God has blessed you." ( Deut 12:7)
Have you read the promises of your covenant yet? They include salvation, provision, guidance, health and victory – if you obey the rules.
God put the rules of His covenant with Israel in a box called "The Ark of the Covenant" and when they went to war, it always went ahead of them. As a result, no enemy could stand against them. Why? Because God’s covenant was their power source! God Himself was their ally in battle!
How wonderful! The covenant sword means He’ll fight fore you. The covenant shoe means He’ll be there when you need Him. The covenant sacrifice means, "...you’re complete in Him…"(Col 2:10). He’ll keep His covenant with you. The question is – will you keep your covenant with Him? Taken from the UCB Word for Today by Bob and Debby Gass.
PRAY
FOR SAFETY & PEACE ON THE STREETS OF BRISTOL AND FOR A DECLINE IN
THE
VIOLENCE, ATTACKS & MUGGINGS
Recently there has been a noticeable increase in the above on the streets of Bristol including the murder of a barmaid. Pray for God to release guardian angels and for angels of peace, mercy and love. Wherever you walk in the city pray for God to presence Himself. God has given us the authority to bring His peace – lets see this happen.
Continue to remember and
pray into Cindy Jacob’s warning that unless there is united prayer across
our cities there will be race riots which has already happened in 4 cities
in the UK. Hosea 6:5 ‘I use prophets to shake you to attention … My words
cut you to the quick.. To wake you up to My judgement blazing like light..’
Clifford Hill of the Prophecy Today magazine is confirming this message.
Satan
knows he is defeated. He knows his time is limited. We are told that the
people on earth, "overcame him by the blood of the lamb and the word of
their testimony." The enemy uses two bases for attacking us. One is sin
on our part, but Christ, through the cross, has provided forgiveness and
cleansing for all our sin. If we agree with God about our sin and His remedy
for it, Satan can no longer hold us in bondage by guilt. The other principal
basis of attack is self. His aim is always to get us to be self-centred
instead of God-centred. But self also goes to the cross with Christ. So
if my self has gone to the cross with Christ and I daily
reckon
myself dead to the demands of that old nature, the cross is the basis of
my victory.
Outreach
For all new Alpha courses starting in September - pray
for Christians to be mobilised
in taking their friends along.
– Isaiah 52 – ‘How blessed on the mountain are the feet of those who bring Good News’
Vineyard Banquet 16th September
He said to them, "I have food to eat that you know nothing about….my food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work." (John 4 vs 32, 34) For the third year running, the Bristol Vineyard will be organising a mass street outreach giving away food, clothing and the good news of Jesus to anyone who is in the area. The "banquet" itself will begin at approx 1pm on the above date at the "Bear Pit" or the roundabout behind the Horsefair. Pray for those who are in leadership positions, that they will have wisdom and will seek God’s face at every turn. Pray for donations of food and clothing, the provision of equipment (generator for worship group, cool-boxes, tables, camping-stoves), helpers for the day, (why don’t you come along?), helpers for making puddings, people who will long to talk to those who come and share the love of Jesus. Pray for everyone to meet with God – passers by, the homeless, policemen and all who are helping. Pray for signs and wonders. Pray for the blood of Jesus to saturate the event. Pray, that as helpers come from other churches that there will be a spirit of unity and not division. Pray, that this will be a key step into uniting believers across this city in intercession, inviting God to send the fire of His spirit.
Visit of John Stott & Chris Wright to Bristol 28 to 30 September – John Stott is 80 this year and is promoting the Langham Partnership which seeks to equip leaders, train preachers and distribute evangelical books to the church in 3rd World countries. Pray Christians in the city will support this
WORDS FOR BRISTOL –Words
for the Nation – the church needs to
position itself in Intercessory
Worship – Chain breaking prayer like
Paul & Silas worshipping
in prison to set the captives free. Called
to be driven by God’s
Spirit and not by the Flesh. Mobilize the
creative arts in the church
especially appealing to the youth – a
visual generation. Revival
was lost in the past because of lack of
Holiness –cry out for
this for the church and then God will send His
Power.
